Mother of Indianola child shot by police seeks new criminal charge against officer
SUMMARY: Mother of 11-year-old Indianola boy shot by police officer files a criminal affidavit against the officer for misdemeanor simple assault in hopes of holding him accountable. A Sunflower County grand jury had declined to indict the officer for any felony charges after investigating the incident. The boy suffered severe injuries and the officer was reinstated with the police department. The mother is also pursuing a $5 million federal lawsuit against the officer, police chief, and city. Video footage shows the officer shooting the boy in the chest, leading to ongoing efforts to seek justice and accountability for the harm inflicted upon the family.
