Mississippi burn bans in effect. Here’s how you can safely cook for Labor Day weekend
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Forestry Commission has implemented burn bans in Central and Southern Mississippi due to the high number of wildfires in the state. However, barbecuing is still allowed, which is good news for those celebrating Labor Day weekend. Barbecue experts recommend using charcoal and a charcoal chimney instead of lighter fluid to prevent excessive heat and burning the food. Since August 1, over 430 wildfires have occurred in Mississippi, burning more than 8,700 acres. The most at-risk areas for wildfires are currently the coast and parts of Central Mississippi.
