Mississippi Academic Pathways scholarship announced to help train more social workers

SUMMARY: Mississippi's Department of Child Protection Services (MDCPS) launched the Mississippi Academic Pathways (MAP) program, in collaboration with eight universities to increase the number of trained social workers. The program, costing no additional state funds due to federal , allows social work to gain practical experience and prepares them for immediate employment after graduation. Scholarships are available for students and MDCPS employees advancing in social work education, requiring a year of service post-graduation. Since 2023, $1.5 million in scholarships have been awarded to 112 students. Participating universities include Alcorn State, Delta State, State, both Mississippi State campuses, Mississippi Valley State, , and Southern Miss.

Partial human remains discovered in Flowood pond by fishermen

Flowood , alerted by the fishermen around 7:15 p.m., confirmed the discovery at a pond near 4200 Mangum Road. The Rankin County Coroner has since taken the remains, and a search for more evidence was planned for the Monday morning. This incident marks the third time in the past month that fishermen in Mississippi have across human remains. Previous findings included the body of a missing man, Dau Mabil, and 42-year-old Jay Lee Barber, both discovered near rivers. The police continue to investigate these cases.
