MDOT wants new funding formula
SUMMARY: The Department of Transportation in Mississippi is exploring new funding options, including revamping the way lottery money is distributed and increasing the department's share of lottery revenue from 80 million to 80%. This could potentially bring in an additional $25 million in revenue. They are also considering using use tax revenue and gaming revenue to fund infrastructure projects. Executive Director of MDOT, Brad White, believes these changes can be made without raising taxes. Legislative priorities for the department will be discussed further at upcoming sessions.
