McComb police investigate shootings

SUMMARY: Two separate shootings are being investigated by the McComb Department, one of which was deadly. The first shooting occurred on South Chestnut Street, resulting in severe injuries to two victims – John and Deondre Lang – by their relative, 21-year-old Charles Bullock Junior. The second shooting took place on Earl Street, resulting in the of 20-year-old Cody Gallegher. Bullock turned himself in after the first shooting, but the in the second shooting remains unidentified. The investigation is ongoing.

McComb police are investigating two shootings, one of which was fatal.

Two hospitalized after shooting in Lamar County

Three local programs win state titles

SUMMARY: In the MAIS finals, Prep won their 7th straight championship with a 9-4 victory over PCS. Tri County Academy swept the 4A against Kirk Academy to win the title. In the 7A state softball finals, Northwest Rankin defeated Hernando 6-3 to repeat as state champions. In college baseball, Mississippi State won against Mizzou 4-3, fell to LSU 5-1, Jackson State won 8-7 against Alabama A&M, and Southern Miss trailed State 7-5. Additionally, RJ Barrett led Tri County Academy to victory in his first year as head coach.

The Jackson Prep dynasty in baseball continues as they win their 7th straight state championship in a three win over PCS in the 6A MAIS Finals. Tri County Academy sweeps the 4A MAIS Finals and wins their first title since 2016 under first year head coach RJ Barrett. In the 7A softball state finals Northwest Rankin repeats as state champs as they sweep Hernando.
