Lowndes County Supervisors get update on county’s ARPA-funded projects

SUMMARY: Lowndes County in Mississippi has received just under $11.4 million in federal funds under the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), and the county supervisors recently discussed how much of the money has been committed and how much is left. So far, about $5 million has been spent on water and sewer projects, with matching grants from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality making the available funds almost double that amount. The county still has approximately $2 million left to spend. The supervisors are now taking a step back to determine the best way to spend the remaining funds that would be agreeable to everyone involved. Additionally, the county plans to release money for water and sewer improvements in Caledonia and Crawford through sub-municipality agreements.

SUMMARY: On April 27th, Columbus Police responded to a gunshot victim in the 800 block of North Lehmberg. Courtney Stewart Wiggly was arrested for shooting her husband, Daryl Wiggly, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was flown to Jackson for treatment. Courtney is in custody at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center awaiting her Initial Appearance. The incident is being investigated as aggravated domestic violence.
