Local law enforcement is urging residents to help keep the community clean

SUMMARY: Local law enforcement in Tishomingo County is urging residents to avoid littering to keep the community clean. Deputies shared before and after pictures of litter at the Steel Bridge, where they collected 43 bags of litter in just one week. Inmates in the area are helping pick up litter along roadways and other areas as part of a partnership with the sheriff's department. With summer approaching, activity at lakes and recreation areas is expected to increase. Residents are encouraged to do their part by not tossing trash out of their vehicles. Similar clean-up efforts are happening in other parts of the area, with inmates from the Itawamba County Jail also participating in removing litter from various roads.

Tishomingo and Itawamba County sheriff's offices picked up litter over the weekend.

Multiple injured in ATV wrecks in Lowndes County

SUMMARY: Over the weekend, two ATV accidents occurred resulting in multiple injuries. The first accident involved a mother and her three children being ejected from a Canam side by side vehicle that overturned on Wri Road in Calonia. One child, a six-year-old, remains hospitalized. The second accident involved a 24-year-old who was injured after their vehicle overturned on Canfield Road in Columbus. All individuals involved in the accidents were taken to the hospital for treatment. The Sheriff Eddie Hawkins reported both incidents and emphasized the importance of ATV safety to prevent such accidents in the future.

Two separate ATV wrecks in Lowndes County injured several individuals including children.
