The Christmas season is here, and at Landrum Homestead in Laurel, today was all about spreading cheer the old-fashioned way. Our Jay Harrison has more on how the village celebrated 40 years in the business. Saturday was filled with Christmas fun and a little knowledge, with a village celebration that included music, Civil War re-enactments, and a chance to meet Mr. and Mrs. Clause. Dozens of people from everywhere drove and spent their day with us, making it a successful and festive event.

SUMMARY: Medgar Evers, a civil rights leader from Mississippi, was recently awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest honor a civilian can receive. Evers, a native of Newton County, served in World War II and fought tirelessly for equal rights. He was the state's first field secretary for the NAACP, organizing protests and boycotts, including the Talo 9 sit-in in downtown Jackson. Evers paved the way for the NAACP by getting members involved and dedicated his life to the fight for civil rights. His dedication and legacy continue to inspire activists today. Evers is the 10th Mississippian to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

It's the highest honor a civilian can receive, along with serving in World War 2, Evers fought tirelessly for equal rights.
