Juvenile Detainees Escape

SUMMARY: New information on three armed and dangerous juvenile escapees: 17-year-old Tayshon Holmes, 15-year-old Jashon Jones, and 16-year-old Robert Earl Smith broke out of the facility. They were part of a group of 14 juveniles who overpowered a guard and got out of their cells. The sheriff's department is conducting the investigation, and the stole a blue 2007 Jeep Liberty from the parking lot, believed to have a gun in it with license plate “C-F-B-0-9-0-1”. Smith was being held for killing a hunter in January of last year, Holmes for shooting his stepfather in September 2022, and Jones for carjacking a woman in 2022. Three detainees were in the escape but have non- threatening injuries.

Two hospitalized after shooting in Lamar County

Lamar County creating 'crisis crisis stabilization unit' in Purvis

Delaney Dukes reports on WD7 and Pine Grove Behavioral Health partnering to raise mental health awareness. With Crisis Intervention training, can identify and deescalate mental health crises, rather than automatically arresting individuals. Lamar County Sheriff Regal acknowledges increased awareness and plans to certify all officers in CIT. The establishment of a crisis stabilization unit in partnership with Forest County and Hattisburg is underway. This new approach aims to neutral, non-jail settings for those in crisis, benefiting the community. The Old National Guard building is set to be remodeled for this purpose, starting next month.
