I-110 south to reopen after fire closed lanes
SUMMARY: The breaking news is that the MDOT has informed the newsroom that the southbound lane of I-10 will reopen to traffic sometime this afternoon. The MDOT camera shows that traffic is flowing smoothly with no issues. Kelly Castleberry says that crews will remove the barricades in a couple of hours, but more permanent repairs still need to be made. There is no word on when those repairs will begin, but the bridge will remain open even as repairs are being done.
The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced Monday morning that I-110 southbound lanes will finally reopen following weeks of closure.

Popp's Ferry Road extension receives green light to move forward
SUMMARY: The Pops Ferry Road Extension project has received the green light to connect to Highway 90. After overcoming setbacks, the project, approved by state and federal agencies, is set to begin groundbreaking by mid-August. The $27 million project will pass through the Mississippi Coast Coliseum and Convention Center, incorporating an underpass to ensure safe visitor access. The project, part of a strategy to enhance traffic flow, will designate Pops Ferry Road as a state road, making it eligible for federal funds. This could potentially aid in replacing the problematic drawbridge, linking Pops Ferry to two federal highways and opening opportunities for federal assistance.
Biloxi's push to connect Popp's Ferry Road to Highway 90 is getting the green light to move forward.

Local shrimpers say conditions not yet ideal for 2024 season
SUMMARY: Many shrimpers from the coast are heading west this weekend as Louisiana's inshore shrimp season opened on Thursday, while Mississippi waters remain closed. Min Trong, who sells shrimp from his van in Long Beach on weekends, is preparing to open a seafood store. He notes that for the second consecutive year, shrimping conditions have been less than ideal, driving prices down. Factors like excessive freshwater and wind are affecting shrimp availability. Trong anticipates Mississippi's shrimp season to open around mid-June but felt last year's season started too early. Shrimp prices have remained low for the past two years.
Minh Troung and other shrimpers say it'll be a few weeks before conditions are right for shrimping in the Mississippi Sound.
