Institute for Business & Home Safety making sure homes are protected this hurricane season
SUMMARY: As hurricane season begins, the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS) is ensuring coastal homes are fortified. Gulfport Mayor Billy Hughes, who has been reinforcing his home for five years through the Fortified program, emphasizes the importance of preparation. The IBHS offers three protection levels: Fortified Roof, Silver, and Gold, with reinforcements like impact-resistant windows and well-maintained structures. Forecasters predict a busy season, and experts advise planning ahead by trimming trees, inspecting roofs, and reviewing insurance policies. While not everyone needs a fortified home, taking preventative steps is crucial. Currently, 65,000 homes nationwide are fortified.
Gulfport Mayor Billy Hewes met with members of the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety in front of his home on Wednesday.
