Pearl River Valley working to restore power near Bassfield
SUMMARY: Pearl River Valley Electric Power Association is still assessing storm damage after high winds hit the Pine Belt area on Monday. Over 10,000 members lost power, but crews have restored it to under 300. The bulk of outages are in the Bassfield area, with about 170 broken power poles. Crews are clearing debris to replace infrastructure. The recovery process has been lengthy, but they are hopeful to soon have everyone back up and running. Thanks to contract crews and linemen for their hard work. Crews will be working into the night to restore power.

National Weather Service checks out storm damage in Jefferson Davis County
SUMMARY: National Weather Service personnel were in Jefferson Davis County surveying damage from storms. Two EF1 tornadoes touched down in neighboring Lawrence County. They are assessing whether the damage was caused by a tornado or straight-line winds. They are looking for patterns in the direction of damage, such as trees falling in one direction or multiple directions. Fallen law enforcement officers remembered, honored during Hattiesburg ceremony
SUMMARY: Today, in honor of National Police Week, a ceremony was held to honor 11 fallen police officers from Forest and Lamar counties in Mississippi. The Pine Bell area law enforcement memorial ceremony paid tribute to the officers who made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting their community. Family members of the fallen officers spoke about the importance of remembering their loved ones. The names of the officers were read aloud, roses were placed in their honor, and a gun salute and trumpet performance of TAPS occurred. Community leaders came together to show support and appreciation for the officers who gave their lives in service.
