Ellisville State School having on-grounds cemetery mapped
SUMMARY: Ellisville State School and the University of Southern Mississippi are working together on a Cemetery preservation project to pinpoint the exact burial locations of relatives in the Ellisville State School Cemetery. Four USM interns are currently sorting through about 150 names of people buried at the cemetery, creating a digital map that will organize the burial sites. The project, initiated in 2021, aims to repair headstones, create burial location maps, and obtain additional records for verification. The school has two cemeteries on campus, and research will also be carried out on the south Cemetery. The project is expected to be completed within a year.
