SUMMARY: A primary election for the fourth district is being held on March 12th in Hattiesburg. The city is looking to add some art inside the H-P-D safety complex, and has applied for a $25,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to help pay for a mural. Mayor Toby Barker says that having a new mural would go a long way in promoting community policing and neighborhood pride. Taxpayers have spent $30 million to build a state-of-the-art facility for the police department and municipal court. The city would also put up $25,000 in matching funds for the mural project if accepted.

The City of Hattiesburg is looking to add some art inside of the HPD safety complex.

Seven rescued by law enforcement after being stuck on sandbar in Monroe County

SUMMARY: The Monroe County Sheriff's Office posted on Facebook about a potentially deadly situation where seven people, including children, were stranded on a sandbar in Town Creek due to rapidly rising water from an upstream storm. The County's 911 dispatch received the call for help, and Sheriff Kevin Crook explained that the swift water was deceptive. One deputy went to his home in Amory to get his boat and, along with an officer from the state wildlife department, rescued everyone from the sandbar.
