Coming soon, ‘WZZQ: The Movie’ takes deep dive into legendary rock station
SUMMARY: On July 2, 1981, Jackson, Mississippi's beloved rock station WZZQ abruptly transitioned to corporate country, leaving rock fans dismayed. The station, known for freeform rock and a personal connection with listeners, had been the subject of sale rumors since late 1980. Despite protests, including a campaign to “Save Our Station,” WZZQ was replaced by WMSI. More than four decades later, a movie directed by Ann Ford is in the works to commemorate WZZQ's legacy. It will include interviews and a deep dive into the station's evolution from WJDX to its zenith, and ultimately its demise, paying tribute to the station that once was a pioneer of album-oriented radio.

SUMMARY: The Mississippi Symphony Orchestra (MSO) is set to conclude its season with the 43rd annual Pepsi Pops concert at Old Trace Park. On May 10th, gates will open at 5:30 p.m. for an evening featuring pop tunes, a showcase by the Mississippi Youth Symphony Orchestra (celebrating their 75th anniversary), and eventually, a fireworks display. The MSO will perform American-themed pieces including works from “The Cowboys,” “Oklahoma,” and “Rodeo,” as well as modern classics like the themes from “Star Trek” and “Star Wars.” Family-friendly activities are encouraged, though certain items are prohibited. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the gate.
