Mississippi shows highest interest in ‘Barbie’ movie nationwide
SUMMARY: Mississippi residents have shown the highest interest in the recently released Barbie movie compared to Oppenheimer, according to Google Trends data. Surrounding southern states also displayed a higher number of trending searches for Barbie, while New Mexico, where Oppenheimer's plot takes place, had fewer searches. One resident believes the Barbie movie is popular in Mississippi because it provides an opportunity to celebrate femininity. Both films have had successful opening weekends, with Barbie breaking records for the largest opening weekend and Oppenheimer selling over 5.8 million tickets nationwide. The simultaneous release of the films has sparked a trend called “Barbenheimer.”

Williams would call Trulove from prison to apply for benefits on his behalf, which he then received through a debit card that she used. It's illegal in the state to obtain unemployment benefits while in prison. State Auditor Shad White emphasized the use of technology to uncover such fraud. If convicted, the couple could face up to five years in prison and $1,000 in fines each.

Republican congressmen introduce bill that would protect NCAA and conferences from legal attacks
SUMMARY: Republican Reps. Russell Fry and Barry Moore introduced the Protect the Ball Act to offer legal protection for the NCAA and related entities from lawsuits challenging their governance of college sports. The Act responds to legal pressures, including antitrust lawsuits and regulations concerning athlete endorsements since 2016. It aims to regulate recruitment, eligibility, and name, image, and likeness (NIL) compensation. Amidst ongoing settlement talks that could lead to a revenue-sharing model for athletes, this legislation also seeks to establish a liability shield and a uniform standard for NIL compensation while preventing the classification of college athletes as employees. Seven bills have been proposed since 2020, but none have advanced; this Act supports broader NIL legislation.
