Columbus moves forward with annexation plans
SUMMARY: The Columbus City Council voted 4-2 to move forward with annexing two parcels on the city's southern and eastern borders. There was some debate before the vote, with concerns raised about access to city services and increased taxes for property owners in the annexed areas. Councilwoman Jacqueline DiCicco pointed out that some residents from the last area annexed by the city 10 years ago still do not have full access to city services, while Councilman Stephen Jones mentioned that a survey showed those residents did not want city services. The next steps include petitioning the Chancery Court and posting public notices in the areas to be annexed.
