Advocacy group calls on Mississippi lawmakers to close healthcare coverage gap
SUMMARY: Mississippi's healthcare coverage gap was the focus at the state capitol, as the “CARE-4-MISSISSIPPI” campaign urged lawmakers to pass legislation to provide healthcare for over 200,000 people who make too much for Medicaid but not enough for private insurance. One woman, Lakeisha Preston, shared her experience of struggling to afford medical treatment for herself and her son due to the coverage gap. Eight bills have been filed to address the issue, including plans to expand or modify Medicaid. Governor Tate Reeves may veto such legislation, but it could be overridden by a two-thirds vote in both chambers.

SUMMARY: Columbia Academy's top students for the class of 2024, valedictorian Emily Guy and salutatorian Caleb Deo, are both planning to attend Southern Miss for accounting and nursing respectively. Kevin Milan, valedictorian of Wayne County High School, is heading to MSU for further education and will be joined by salutatorian Jonah Wall, who will study mechanical engineering. Emily Guy is an All-Star Archer and Mississippi eminent scholar, Caleb Deo is a two-time South State golf team qualifier, Kevin Milan is the Beta Club and student council president, and Jonah Wall is the FFA secretary. Congratulations to the top students of the class of 2024.
