JPD sees increase in deadly domestic disputes
SUMMARY: Jackson City leaders have noted an increase in deadly domestic disputes, with at least five incidents investigated this month. The city is working to prevent further tragedies, holding a moment of silence and acknowledging first responders and organizations during a special ceremony. The Mayor's Office of Violence Prevention Trauma Recovery highlights the impact of isolation during COVID-19 on domestic violence rates. Efforts are being made to connect survivors with resources and educate the community, including training for first responders and implementing more legislation. It is emphasized that everyone should educate themselves on domestic violence, even if they have not experienced it directly.
There have been five domestic disputes that ended in death in Jackson this year.
