Former Jones County reserve deputy sentenced to 20 years for fatal shooting

SUMMARY: Former Jones County Deputy George R Ryan Walters was sentenced to 20 years after pleading guilty to second degree murder for shooting and killing a man in a church parking lot in Laurel. Walters was originally charged with first-degree murder, but accepted a plea deal to the lesser charge. In addition to his sentence, Walters will have to pay court costs and fines.
