City officials rushed to remove the trees using city work crews. The dry conditions from last year's drought created the perfect environment for the pine beetles to thrive. The insects burrow into trees, cutting off their food sources. More gates and “do not enter” signs are being put up in the park to deal with the problem. Contract crews are also working at the reservoir to address the growing issue of dying trees.
