Mississippi’s Republican-led House passes Medicaid expansion bill

SUMMARY: A bill that expands Medicaid in Mississippi passed the House by a vote of 96 to 20, covering working Mississippians aged 19 to 64 earning up to 138% of the federal poverty level. The program will require employment for at least 20 hours a week without health insurance, or enrollment in school or workforce training. The federal government will provide 90% of the funding, with the rest coming from Mississippi's managed care organizations through a tax. The bill now moves to the Senate where its future is uncertain. Senate leaders want to develop their own version of expansion before bringing it to a vote.

Overnight lane closure in Madison County

Wiggins firefighter pinned in fire engine accident released from hospital

Around midnight, the Wiggins Fire Department's engine rolled multiple times en route, trapping a firefighter underneath. The firefighter was rescued using the jaws of life and transported to a hospital, where she has been discharged and is expected to fully recover. The person involved in the initial single-vehicle accident was also freed and was uninjured. Fire Chief Steve Purvis provided this information.
