SUMMARY: The Hattisburg Disabled American Chapter 62 is preparing for its third annual veterans , Vet Fest, on Saturday, May 18th from 10am to 2pm at Town Square Park. The festival aims to honor and appreciate veterans and will feature various vendors, food vendors, veteran service providers, and military-owned businesses. There will also be a mobile unit from the VA for wellness checks, as well as activities for kids, static displays, and giveaways. The has grown over the years, with an emphasis on supporting and recognizing veterans in the community. Additionally, this year they will be honoring the oldest veterans in the community. Ellisville State School cemetery projects moving forward

SUMMARY: Ellisville School provided an on their Cemetery preservation , where interns from USM helped locate buried remains of families. The interns created a digital map of the cemetery to locate sunken headstones. A professor from USM used ground penetrating radar with a 400 megahertz antenna to locate unmarked or mismarked graves. The radar sends a signal into the ground and maps where it returns to identify anomalies indicating burials. The cemetery was active from the 1920s to the 1980s, with approximately 150 people buried there. The takes 3 to 4 hours and will result in a three-dimensional model of the area.

Columbia officer honored with national recognition
