Mississippi Aquarium awarded over $600,000 in grants for coral restoration project
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Aquarium has been awarded grants from the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation to support restoration and education related to the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill. These grants will help the aquarium in coral propagation and conservation efforts for mesophotic and deep benthic communities in the Gulf of Mexico. The aquarium visitors will have the opportunity to learn about and view these rarely seen corals. The restoration projects aim to protect and manage these underwater habitats, which were injured by the oil spill. A new interactive exhibit at the aquarium will also provide education about deep water habitats and their importance.

Investigation continues into 4 electrical blackouts on ship that caused Baltimore bridge collapse
SUMMARY: The container ship Dali experienced electrical blackouts before leaving Baltimore's port, which were different from the power outages that led to the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, killing six workers. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incidents, with the ship losing power and crashing into the bridge. Initial findings suggest that maintenance issues and changes to the ship's electrical configuration may have played a role in the accidents. The FBI has also launched a criminal investigation. The ship is expected to be refloated and guided back to the Port of Baltimore.
