WCBI steps back in time for 30th anniversary in downtown Columbus

SUMMARY: WCBI, the first TV station in North Mississippi, evolved from broadcasting in trailers in a cow pasture to occupying a renovated historic department store in Columbus. Former Director Jeffrey Rupp described the transformative move in 1993 as a leap from an “outhouse to the penthouse.” This relocation sparked the Market Street and contributed to the revitalization of the Main Street District. Current General Derek Rogers considers the move an economic catalyst and ensures that WCBI's community-focused mission will continue unchanged, serving 19 counties and telling their stories.
