Legislative Black Caucus unveils Right to Contraception Act
SUMMARY: Mississippi lawmakers and community members have introduced the Mississippi Right to Contraception Act, which aims to protect Mississippians' access to contraception. The bill, set to be filed in January 2024, would safeguard the right to use condoms and birth control. The lawmakers behind the bill, Representatives Chris Bell and Zakiya Summers, cited the failure of the federal Right to Contraception Act to pass in Congress as their motivation. They emphasized the importance of contraception in enabling individuals to make informed decisions about family planning and providing children with proper care. A statewide ad campaign will be launched to promote the bill.
