Ingalls Shipbuilding announces successful launch of amphibious assault ship
SUMMARY: HII's Ingalls Shipbuilding division has successfully launched the Navy's third America-class amphibious assault ship, Bougainville (LHA 8), into the Pascagoula River. The ship was translated from land to the company's floating dry dock using translation railcars. Bougainville is the first ship in the America class to be built with a well deck, allowing it to retain aviation capabilities while adding surface assault capability. The ship also includes top-of-the-line medical facilities. Ingalls has delivered 15 large-deck amphibious ships to the U.S. Navy and has another ship, Fallujah (LHA 9), under construction.

SUMMARY: The 2024 College Savings Mississippi art contest rewarded 12 student winners and one teacher with over $7,000 in scholarships. State Treasurer David McRae praised the imaginative works, hoping the scholarships would help them realize their dreams. With nearly 2,000 entrants, it was highly competitive. Winners ranged from early elementary to high school students across different schools. First-place awardees received $1,000 scholarships, second-place $500, and third-place $250, all in the form of Mississippi Affordable College Savings (MACS) accounts. Teacher of the Year Ginger Fisher, with over 200 student entries, earned a $200 prize.
