COVID-19 cases rising, but a new vaccine is available
SUMMARY: There is an uptick in cases or hospitalizations due to the emergence of a new mutation. Approximately 25% of people who are getting tested, including those in outpatient clinics, are testing positive for COVID. The symptoms of this most recent mutation are presenting similarly to a common cold or allergies. The older and immunocompromised population are still at risk of developing severe pneumonia. Both Moderna and Pfizer are working on vaccines for this new mutation. Doctors are recommending that people get a flu shot and eventually a COVID shot, but there are different opinions on the timeline. Covering a broader patient age range may help lower the severity of cases, especially for those in vulnerable populations. This information was provided by Dr. Taylor Brewer from Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Taylor Brewer from Memorial Health System tells us about the CDC’s recommendation that everyone six months or older should get another COVID-19 vaccine.

This rapid decision-making process is central to the role, contributing to the thrill and enjoyment of the job despite the inherent pressures.

Why We Report – Lucas Warren 11/24
SUMMARY: My favorite part of the job is discovering hidden stories, even in seemingly mundane events like a board of supervisors meeting. I believe that with a little extra effort, there’s always an interesting angle to uncover. For example, during college, I wrote about a vintage store, initially anticipated to be a simple feature. However, I learned that the 18-year-old owner was still in high school, revealing a much deeper narrative. Finding these layered stories truly excites me and fuels my passion for storytelling.
