Blessing Ceremony for Safe Haven Baby Box in Long Beach
SUMMARY: Mississippi's Long Beach has launched its first-ever Safe Haven Baby Box, offering a safe, anonymous option for struggling mothers to surrender their babies. The city's fire station will host the box, which automatically dials 911 when a baby is placed inside. Long Beach is the 158th Safe Haven location, making Mississippi the 12th state to implement the initiative. Launched six years ago, Safe Haven has facilitated the placement of 35 infants in baby boxes and 133 handoffs. For parents in crisis, a 24-hour hotline is available to offer support and information on pregnancy resources or box locations.

Family files lawsuit after teen’s suicide in Harrison County Jail
SUMMARY: The family of 16-year-old Kayelyn Gwen Drake, who committed suicide at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center, is suing the Harrison County Sheriff's Office and jail medical center for personal injuries and wrongful death. Kayelyn's family believes she was wrongfully accused of armed robbery and would still be alive if not for the actions of the Sheriff's Department. They describe Kayelyn as a good student who enjoyed singing and photography, and claim that she was falsely implicated in the crime due to being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The family also criticizes the handling of Kayelyn's case by law enforcement, alleging negligence and lack of support.
