A Look Ahead: 7 things in the “Southern 6” to watch heading into the 2023 prep football season
SUMMARY: As the prep football season kicks off in South Mississippi, 228 Sports provides a preview of what to expect in the upcoming season. This year, there are seven classifications instead of the usual six, affecting all 24 schools in the region. There are also eight new coaches, including Blake Pennock and John Feaster who have changed schools. Pascagoula's Lewis Sims is the longest-tenured head coach in the area. The regular season schedule has changed, with Gulfport and Biloxi no longer closing it out against each other. Three local players have been named to the “Dandy Dozen” pre-season list, and Picayune is aiming for their third straight state championship. Bay High will face Resurrection for the first time ever, and there are no more standout quarterbacks left in the region.
