The heaviest animal ever may be this ancient whale found in the Peruvian desert

SUMMARY: Fossil of a newly-discovered whale species named Perucetus colossus, unearthed in Peru, suggest it could rival the blue whale as the heaviest animal ever lived. The ancient giant, estimated to weigh between 94 and 375 tons, had bones much denser than a blue whale's and is believed to have resided in shallow, coastal waters. The bones hint that the colossal whale possibly scavenged for food along the seabed or consumed massive amounts of krill and other tiny sea creatures. The research was published in the journal Nature.

USM Army and Air Force ROTC programs host Commissioning Ceremonies

SUMMARY: Ten Army and three Force cadets from the of Southern Mississippi (USM) ROTC were commissioned as Second Lieutenants. The Army ceremony at Camp Shelby Major General Janson D. Boyles, while the Air Force ceremony on campus featured Brigadier General Mary-Kathryn Haddad. LTC Juan J. Ortiz praised the Army cadets for their leadership, and Lt. Col. Sheena Puleali'i commended the Air Force cadets for their commitment. Distinguished Military Graduate 2LT Jeremiah J. Parker expressed pride in his and future goals. Commissioned cadets include 2LT Miruna Avram, 2LT Braxton Bailey, 2LT Jada Fairley, among others.
