Two arrested after midnight traffic stop in Gulfport

SUMMARY: On July 27, 2023, Jontae Da'quarius McNeal, 20, and a 16-year-old were arrested during a traffic stop by Gulfport Police Department Anti-Crime Unit. McNeal was charged with one count of possession of a stolen firearm, while the juvenile was charged with six counts of vehicle burglary. A search of the vehicle revealed the stolen firearm and a window break hammer. McNeal, held on a $50,000 bond, was sent to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center, and the juvenile to the County's Youth Detention Center. Police request anyone with related information to contact them.

SUMMARY: Ten Army and three Air Force cadets from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) ROTC were commissioned as Second Lieutenants. The Army ceremony at Camp Shelby featured Major General Janson D. Boyles, while the Air Force ceremony on campus featured Brigadier General Mary-Kathryn Haddad. LTC Juan J. Ortiz praised the Army cadets for their leadership, and Lt. Col. Sheena Puleali'i commended the Air Force cadets for their commitment. Distinguished Military Graduate 2LT Jeremiah J. Parker expressed pride in his training and future goals. Commissioned cadets include 2LT Miruna Avram, 2LT Braxton Bailey, 2LT Jada Fairley, among others.
