The males sing to attract females, leading to a cacophony of noise in the trees. The cicadas can also have impacts on trees, as the females lay their eggs in twigs, sometimes causing them to break. The cicadas are expected to last until the first of June, so be sure to enjoy their song while it lasts.

A rare brood of cicadas is making its presence felt in north Mississippi and the South.
