US judge condemns Mississippi city’s ‘crime cancer’ as he removes state justice from lawsuit
SUMMARY: Mississippi's Supreme Court chief justice can't be sued over a state law that requires him to appoint judges in Jackson, according to a federal judge. The ruling came amid a lawsuit questioning the constitutionality of the law and the apparent racial undertones of elected officials' decisions. Jackson, which suffers from high crime rates, is majority-Black and governed by Democrats. Critics claim that appointing judges, instead of electing them, is an attempt by the majority-white and Republican-led Legislature to take control from the city's residents.

Rankin County sheriff, others accused of excessive force in new lawsuit

Adams is seeking compensation for the alleged violations and damages, claiming a pattern of excessive force, especially against Black citizens or suspected drug users. Dedmon is currently serving prison time for his role in the torture. Bailey and Adams' attorney have not yet commented on the allegations.
