Local Live(s) + Mississippi Today: Stories about Power
On February 9, 2022 from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm at Fondren Guitars in Jackson, Mississippi, join Mississippi Today for a captivating live storytelling event featuring Mississippi Today journalists, music and community.
Local Live(s) is a show that brings together journalists and locals for a night of entertainment and conversation by and for the people of Mississippi. Think of it as a podcast, but live and on stage. The theme of this event is Power: Stories of Strength, Imbalance and Untapped Potential.
Storytellers:
Journalists share stories behind their reporting, inviting readers into a world they've only observed from the outside. Community members also share true, unvarnished stories from their lives. The result is an entertaining, captivating event filled with new connections and suspense.
Featured Mississippi Today team members include:
- journalist Anna Wolfe,
- cartoonist Marshall Ramsey and
- photojournalist Vickie King,
- with a special musical guest Vitamin Cea,
- museum director of the Emmett Till Interpretive Center Benjamin Saulsberry, and
- comedian Merc B Williams as emcee.
Vitamin Cea
Vibrant, refreshing, and in a league of her own, Vitamin Cea is a singer, writer and rapper from Gautier, Mississippi. Her first body of work, 2017 release, “JoyFull Noise” is a reminder to stay full of joy in spite of the noise of life. “‘Cause the noise is gonna come. You just have to be intentional about keeping your joy intact throughout it.”
Benjamin Saulsberry
Benjamin Saulsberry joined the Emmett Till Interpretive Center as Museum Director in 2016. He has spoken on race, racism, and racial reconciliation across the country on behalf of the Center, including at Harvard Law in 2017 and the University of Detroit at Mercy in 2019. He attended Mississippi Valley State University and the University of Mississippi for graduate work in music.
Merc B Williams
Jackson resident Merc B. Williams is a comedian, host, writer and speaker who is shaking things up with his Jackson resident Merc B. Williams is a comedian, host, writer and speaker who is shaking things up with his versatile comedic style that crosses all social and economic classes. This comedic gem is fresh off Comedy Central's “Hart of The City” Season 2 created by iconic comedian Kevin Hart. He also hosts a variety of local podcasts and web series with fellow Jackson artists.

Congressman calls on FBI to investigate disappearance of Jackson woman
SUMMARY: U.S. Representative Bennie Thompson has requested the FBI to investigate the disappearance of Latasha Crump Coleman, who went missing on July 18, 2023. Despite efforts by local law enforcement, her whereabouts remain unknown. Coleman's family suspects her husband may know something about her disappearance, leading to a confrontation between the families in December 2023. Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones confirmed five adults were arrested after the brawl. Thompson emphasized the importance of a thorough investigation and urged anyone with information to contact the FBI tip line, Crime Stoppers, or the Jackson Police Department.

WCBI/MSU Storm Chase Day 3 Recap – Home – WCBI TV
SUMMARY: A storm chase group traveled from Sweetwater, TX to northern Oklahoma near Ponca City, experiencing severe storms with wind and hail. The storms quickly developed along a warm front, with potential tornado development observed. The storm evolved into a large supercell moving southeast toward Ponca City, producing softball-sized hail. Another storm moved northwest of OKC, producing rotation and strong wind gusts but no tornado. The group observed these storms from their hotel, experiencing lightning, rotation, and outflow wind gusts of about 40 mph.

Warmer temperatures ahead of overnight storms – Home – WCBI TV
SUMMARY: The weather in Columbus, Mississippi is warm and humid with storms expected tonight and into Friday morning. There is a chance of some strong storms with heavy rain, gusty winds, and possibly hail. Temperatures are expected to be in the upper 80s. Showers will continue into Saturday morning before clearing out for the weekend. The SPC has NE Mississippi under a level 1 and 2 risk for severe weather. Overall, expect warm and muggy conditions with scattered showers and storms throughout Friday. Saturday will start with showers but clear out in the evening, while Sunday will have pleasant conditions with clear skies and warm temperatures in the upper 80s.
