Board removes dozen titles from Columbia-Marion County Library

SUMMARY: A group of neighbors in Marion County raised concerns about the content of some books available at the public library. They were particularly concerned about the sexual content found in some of the books, especially those available to minors. The library board of supervisors gave its to twelve young adult titles from the library. Some community members agreed with the decision, while others, LGBTQ advocates, believed in the importance of open-mindedness and balance. The board will continue to work on an age verification policy and protocol.

Preschool’s annual fundraiser turns personal

SUMMARY: The content is about a fundraising at a preschool in Columbia for St. Jude 's Research Hospital. A three-year-old girl named Kennedy Ramos, who was successfully treated at St. Jude for eye cancer, was honored at the event. The community showed overwhelming and donated as much as they could. The event raised over five thousand dollars. The preschool director, Lynn Broome, expressed gratitude and mentioned that the event was a little different this year, as they also talked about and advocated for St. Jude.
