Weekend Preview – July 18, 2024
SUMMARY: Good morning, Pine Belt! On July 18th, the 46th annual Mississippi Watermelon Festival in Mize celebrates Smith County watermelons, featuring a 5K, car show, live music, vendors, and all-you-can-eat watermelon. Proceeds support the Mize Volunteer Fire Department. Gates open at 3:30 PM Friday and 8:30 AM Saturday, with tickets available at the gate. Several local organizations are hosting back-to-school supply giveaways, including South 28th Avenue Baptist Church in Hattiesburg, RH Watkins High School in Laurel, Mississippi Shine Project in Collins, and Grind Fitness in Lumberton. The Mississippi Aquarium offers teachers free admission this weekend, and Hattiesburg Zoo hosts pirate days. Celebrate World Snake Day at the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science in Jackson.
