U.S. Attorney’s Office announces sentences for 2 men selling meth in Mississippi

SUMMARY: The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Mississippi reported two drug-related sentences. Marcus Baldridge received a 17-year prison term for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, after attempting to sell a pound of the drug. His co-conspirator Dremarcus Taylor is awaiting sentencing. Separately, Curtis Navelle Harrison, violating parole on a sentence, was given over 30 years for conspiracy involving methamphetamine and fentanyl; he was caught after a raid in a controlled purchase by undercover . The raid uncovered and evidence of Harrison's joint operation with Louis Booker, Jr.

Officials break ground at $10B Amazon Web Services project in Madison County

AWS will build data center complexes in Canton and Ridgeland, generating over 1,000 high-tech . The AWS centers will be completed within the next five to seven years, potentially adding $3.3 billion to Mississippi's GDP.

Former high school financial secretary pleads guilty to embezzlement

SUMMARY: Dana Walker, a former financial secretary at H.W. Byers High School in Mississippi, has pleaded guilty to embezzling approximately $39,471.70 in school activity funds. Auditor Shad White announced Walker's guilty plea her arrest by the Marshall County School District in February 2022. The funds in question were collected from and staff between August 2020 and February 2022 for various school activities. Walker's employment was covered by a $50,000 surety bond to protect taxpayers. She is for sentencing on August 13 in Marshall County Circuit Court. The State Auditor's office reaffirms its zero-tolerance policy for fraud.
