Tupelo students learn about African American journalists
SUMMARY: Students at Tupelo High School in media courses are researching African American journalists, both past and present. Aundrea Self, a journalist, spoke to the students about the importance of seeking truth and reporting it responsibly. She also shared her experiences in the field, including interviewing former President Barack Obama. The students are learning about both broadcast and print journalism through this research project. This visit highlighted the significance of African American journalists in the media industry and provided insight into the world of journalism for the students.

I-55 lane closures planned in Madison County
SUMMARY: MDOT has announced temporary overnight lane closures on Interstate 55 in Madison County for bridge repair work over U.S. 51 and the CNIC Railroad. The closures will be from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., starting May 20 through May 23 and on weekends of June 1 and June 8. Drivers should expect delays and digital message boards are in place to alert of potential delays during peak travel times.

Mississippi teen accused of killing mother appears in court
SUMMARY: A 14-year-old girl in Rankin County, Mississippi appeared in court after allegedly killing her mother and injuring her step-father in a shooting incident. The defense requested to reduce her bond of $1 million and exclude the public and media from the courtroom. The case was continued until June 4, 2024. The step-father reported finding his wife dead and being shot by his step-daughter, who was arrested and charged with murder. The victim was a teacher at Northwest Rankin High School, while the accused girl was a student there.

Man shot, killed at Parham Bridges Park in Jackson
SUMMARY: Jackson police are investigating the shooting death of Melvin McNair, Jr. at Parham Bridges Park. McNair's maroon 2016 GMC Sierra pickup truck is missing and possibly stolen. The truck has a black stripe on the hood and its tag number is HN5 5508.
