Jackson resident frustrated with sounds of motorcycles
SUMMARY: A man from West Jackson expressed his frustration and emotional distress at a City Council meeting due to his noisy and disruptive neighbor, a motorcycle club. John Holt, who is wheelchair-bound, reported multiple incidents of loud noise to the police but felt no action was taken. He believes the club is trying to force him out of his home. After one call to the police, a sergeant threatened him with arrest for abusing 911. Police Chief Joseph Wade stated they will investigate Holt's complaint about the sergeant and look into possible zoning issues in the neighborhood. City officials will also be investigating the situation further.

Rep. McGee on future of Medicaid
SUMMARY: Mississippi is one of 10 states without a Medicaid expansion plan after state lawmakers failed to reach a compromise. House Medicaid committee chair Missy McGee expresses disappointment that they were unable to agree on the Senate's work requirement. Despite being close, a breakdown occurred when discussing this issue. The House tried to work in language to allow for expansion while leaving room to address the work requirement at a later time similar to North Carolina's plan. McGee believes that building a plan from scratch next year will be a tough task but remains open-minded. The House will review its plan over the summer with Medicaid expansion remaining a priority.
With state lawmakers failing to reach a compromise, Mississippi will remain one of 10 states without a medical expansion plan.

New Safe Haven Baby Box at Covington Co. Hospital
SUMMARY: Covington County Hospital in Mississippi is now home to a Safe Haven baby box, providing mothers in crisis with a safe place to surrender their newborns. The hospital hosted a blessing ceremony for the baby box, offering an alternative for women who are not ready for motherhood. This new option allows mothers to give up their babies anonymously within 45 days of birth. The baby box maintains a constant temperature and has alarms to alert authorities when a baby is placed inside. The Covington County Republican women raised $20,000 in donations to purchase the baby box, which is the third of its kind in Mississippi.
A blessing was held at the Covington County Hospital for its Safe Haven Baby Box on Tuesday.
