SUMMARY: Dr. Thompson has been appointed as the new president of Jackson , the largest HBCU in the state. He has 20 years of experience in education, currently serving as Deputy Commissioner and Chief Administrative Officer at Excel. Thompson has a Doctorate in Urban Higher Learning from JSU and has previously worked in education and administration in Mississippi. Some question whether his close ties to the Commissioner gave him an unfair advantage. His appointment takes effect on November 27th. Dr. Thompson is married with three and also serves as a pastor at Seven Springs United Methodist Church. Overall, the reaction to his appointment has been positive from friends and JSU alums.
