Teen locked up for impersonating Harrison County deputy, scamming people out of thousands
SUMMARY: 19-year-old Sharontay Rice from Georgia was arrested in Harrison County on two felony counts for impersonating a law enforcement officer and scamming people out of over $28,000. The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office received reports of a scam involving phone calls from someone claiming to be a deputy and demanding money to avoid arrest. Rice was identified and apprehended after two victims reported meeting him at the Biloxi courthouse. A search of Rice’s hotel room resulted in the recovery of the stolen funds. He is held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center pending a court appearance. The sheriff stresses that deputies will never solicit money and urges the reporting of any related suspicious calls. An investigation is ongoing.

Ole Miss football comes in at No. 21 in AP preseason poll
SUMMARY: Football season is heating up in Mississippi as Ole Miss is ranked No. 21 in the Associated Press preseason top 25 for 2025-26. Despite losing key players to the NFL Draft and returning few starters, Lane Kiffin’s program remains highly regarded. Last season, Ole Miss narrowly missed the College Football Playoff after tough losses but achieved double-digit wins. Austin Simmons takes over quarterback from Jaxson Dart, with returning and transfer wide receivers bolstering the offense. Running backs and offensive linemen blend returning talent with new transfers. Defensively, coach Pete Golding rebuilds after key departures, confident in his mix of returners and newcomers. The Rebels open the season against Georgia State on August 30. Mississippi State and Southern Miss received no top 25 votes.
