Suspect arrested after man’s remains found inside burned Mississippi home
SUMMARY: In Smith County, Miss., human remains were found inside a burned home on May 3, 2024. The homeowner, Frank Black, was unaccounted for and later identified as the remains. The State Fire Marshal’s Office and Smith County investigators collected evidence. Billy Black was initially questioned and arrested for an unrelated burglary on May 13, 2024. Continued investigations led to his charges of first-degree arson and first-degree murder on June 18, 2024. Sheriff Joel Houston expressed gratitude for public patience and requested any additional information from the public to be reported to the Sheriff’s Office.
