A strong high-pressure ridge will move into the eastern U.S., reducing rain chances and pushing temperatures into the low to mid-90s, with inland areas possibly reaching mid to upper 90s. Heat index values may rise to 100-110°, increasing heat-related risks, so outdoor plans should include hydration and cooling options. The Atlantic hurricane season remains quiet with no expected tropical systems in the next week, while Hurricane Eric recently made landfall in southern Mexico. Overall, summer heat and humidity dominate the forecast.

FIRST ALERT: Scattered showers and storms possible, hot temperatures continue throughout the week
SUMMARY: FIRST ALERT: Scattered showers and storms are possible today in South Mississippi, with highs near 90°F and heat index values reaching 105°F or higher. Morning showers in Jackson County are dissipating, but a few scattered storms may develop through midday, especially near coastal areas. Rain chances decrease into the evening and over the weekend, with Sunday bringing lower rain chances but higher humidity and temperatures in the low to mid-90s. Heat index values could reach 110–115°F early next week. A tropical air mass remains nearby, potentially increasing rain chances midweek. The tropics show low development risk currently, with the season near normal activity.
Meteorologist Aaron Colby has the latest on possible scattered showers and storms with hot temperatures sticking around.
SUMMARY: Harrison County leaders are taking steps to reopen the parking garage at the courthouse, which has been closed since November 2024 after parts of the concrete were found to be crumbling. Bids are now being accepted to address structural issues within the garage. County Engineer Jaclyn Turner emphasized that while the structure is not in critical condition, it remains closed to prevent any potential damage. Turner remains optimistic that the garage could be reopened next year. She noted that repairs have been discussed for years and expressed determination to ensure the work is finally completed.
