Sport Betting Bill Passes House
SUMMARY: The Mississippi House passed House Bill 774 on Thursday, which would legalize mobile sports betting in the state. The author of the bill, Republican Representative Casey Eure, believes it will turn a huge state revenue loss into a gain, but it would require bettors to use online services from existing casinos in the state. Online sportsbooks like DraftKings or FanDuel would need to partner with casinos before customers are able to participate. While the sportsbooks can contract with all the casinos in the state, the casinos themselves can only contract one sportsbook. Eure estimates that the state would generate between 25-35 million in revenue during the first year.

Mississippi sees high number of job openings
SUMMARY: Mississippi's economy is thriving, with numerous job openings across various industries. The top occupations with the highest number of job openings include registered nurses, fast food and retail workers, managers, supervisors, and physicians. Despite a low unemployment rate, there is a shortage of workers due to factors like baby boomers retiring and the impact of the pandemic on the hospitality industry. Industries with high earnings include healthcare, manufacturing, education, retail, transportation, and public administration. Some in-demand professions include engineering, social work, and medical fields. Experts suggest that an influx of younger workers may help fill the job vacancies in Mississippi.
