Sleepout for the Homeless
SUMMARY: The 10th annual event with Mississippi MOVE and Phi Beta Sigma fraternity is raising awareness and providing assistance to the homeless community. Despite the cold and wet weather, the organizers and volunteers are camping out to offer home-cooked meals, clothes, and hygiene products to those in need. They have learned a lot about the homeless population over the years and are fine-tuning their efforts to make a greater impact. The pandemic has increased the need for assistance, and they plan to stay out all night to show their support. This event has been a tradition for many and continues to make a difference in the lives of the homeless.

The Mississippi National Guard hosts crash training

SUMMARY: As we transition into June and the start of hurricane season, wet weather persists with widespread rain and thunderstorms affecting areas from Montrose to Taylorville and across Chocko County. Expect steady rainfall, downpours, and some thunderstorms, particularly in the eastern zones, with rain continuing into Saturday morning. Severe weather is possible overnight, primarily with damaging winds. Saturday will start wetter, gradually drying by midday with hit-and-miss showers into the evening. Sunday will be drier but still rainy. Temperatures will range from the low to mid-80s, with risks of localized flooding due to additional 1-3 inches of rain. Expect unsettled weather into early June, clearing up by next Friday.
