Clean-up efforts underway after dangerous debris from I-10 construction falls into Wolf River
SUMMARY: A construction project on I-10 is causing debris, including rebar and concrete chunks, to fall into Wolf River, raising safety concerns for canoe and kayak users. Joe P., owner of Wolf River Canoe and Kayak, ensures customer safety by monitoring hazardous debris. The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) clarifies that debris falls were accidental during a project to widen the I-10 bridge from two lanes to three each way. Mercy Cross homeless center opens, Diocese of Biloxi addresses 'tent city' concerns
SUMMARY: The old Mercy Cross High School in Buxy has been transformed into a homeless resource center, officially opened today by the diocese of Buxy. The facility will serve the local homeless population, often referred to as “tent city.” The gymnasium now features air conditioning and will host weekly meals provided by Feed My Sheep. The Fieldhouse has been renovated as an emergency shelter for men and women. The former Boys and Girls Club building will house medical services weekly. The initiative aims to eliminate the tents on campus through community effort, with security measures in place to ensure a transitional environment, not a permanent one.
The Diocese of Biloxi opened a homeless resource center at the old Mercy Cross campus Tuesday.

Diocese of Biloxi homeless center opens, helping homeless population
SUMMARY: The Diocese of Biloxi is taking steps to assist the homeless at the Mercy Cross property while preventing it from becoming a permanent tent city. They've renovated facilities to create a Homeless Resource Center offering essentials such as food, showers, and medical services. Bishop Lewis Kinnaman emphasizes this as a transitional site. Security measures include requiring IDs, a code of conduct, and 24/7 security starting in June. Efforts have focused on organizing the area and maintaining cleanliness with sheltered accommodations. Future enhancements include constructing tiny homes and improving site access to reduce neighborhood disturbances.
It is part of the diocese's push to not only help the people who live in tents at the property but also address concerns from nearby residents.
