Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey sworn in for another term
SUMMARY: Brian Bailey was sworn in for his fourth term as Sheriff of Ranken County, along with other County officials. Bailey, who has been sheriff for 12 years, faced no opposition for reelection. However, he still faces pressure following allegations of abuse and brutality within his department. Several deputies were part of the so-called goon squad, who pleaded guilty to charges after unlawfully entering the home of two black men and torturing them. Bailey defends the reputation of the Sheriff's Department, stating that the actions of a few deputies should not destroy the entire department's reputation. He plans to work towards regaining the public's trust over the next four years, while also highlighting the low crime rate and strong support from the Board of Supervisors. Members of the goon squad will be sentenced in January.
