DOJ investigates abuse by Rankin County Sheriff’s Office
SUMMARY: The Rankin County Sheriff's Office has faced allegations of abuse after six former officers pleaded guilty to torturing two black men. Michael Corey Jenkins and Eddie Parker were targeted and subjected to racially motivated, violent torture. The officers were reportedly informed by a neighbor that the men were staying with a white woman. The Sheriff's Office has announced new policies, but the attorney representing Jenkins and Parker is not impressed. He believes the Sheriff is trying to avoid potential indictment by the United States Department of Justice. The former officers are set to be sentenced in January, and victims of abuse are encouraged to contact the FBI hotline.
