Pearl officer injured in chase, juvenile arrested

Court upholds conviction of Mississippi woman sentenced after victim dies in coma
SUMMARY: Brittany Carter's conviction for second-degree murder in connection to the death of Chornell Mayfield was upheld by the Mississippi Court of Appeals. She was sentenced to 40 years in prison, with 10 years suspended, and an additional five-year term for possession of a stolen firearm. Mississippi governor signs education formula, CCID expansion bills
SUMMARY: Governor Tate Reeves of Mississippi signed the Student Funding Formula to replace MAEP, bringing $250 million to public schools. Squatted vehicles will be banned in the state. The Capitol Complex Improvement District boundaries will expand, including Jackson Academy, Spann Elementary, and McLeod Elementary. Capitol police will have primary jurisdiction in this area starting July 1, 2024.

School bus crash leaves minor injuries
